Safar: The Hindi Word for Journey

सफ़र (safar) means journey, a word used for anything from a short bus ride to a long, meaningful passage through life. Hindi speakers wish each other subh safar, safe journey, before almost any trip, however brief it might be. The word carries a gentle philosophical weight too.
Safar is sometimes used to describe life itself, not as a destination but as the travelling, a common and comforting idea in Hindi speaking storytelling and everyday reflection alike. For a learner, safar is worth practising both literally and figuratively: mera safar accha raha, my journey went well.
Using it this way is a small step toward the more reflective, layered Hindi that grows naturally with time. Safar also appears often in reflective, philosophical Hindi conversation, used to describe a person's life journey in general rather than any single specific trip. Hearing safar used this broader way is a useful early sign that a conversation has shifted from the practical toward something more thoughtful and personal.
