Writing your own name in Devanagari (देवनागरी) is a genuinely rewarding early exercise, since it turns an abstract alphabet into something personal almost immediately. Start by sounding your name out slowly, syllable by syllable, before matching each sound to a letter. Names with sounds outside the standard Hindi set.

Certain vowel combinations or consonant clusters common in English, may need a little creative approximation. This is completely normal, and Hindi speakers do it constantly with names borrowed from other languages too. Once written, practise reading your name back slowly, checking that each matra and consonant lines up the way you intended.

Sharing this small piece of writing with a Hindi speaking friend or teacher is a lovely way to confirm it. Learners should not worry if the first attempt looks a little uneven; handwriting in any new script takes time to settle. What matters most at this stage is the genuine, satisfying act of connecting sound to symbol for something so personal.
